Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in legal operations, compliance management, or collections oversight.
  • Specific experience in non-prime or subprime auto lending.
  • Strong working knowledge of FDCPA, UDAAP, and applicable state consumer protection laws.
  • Experience managing bankruptcy filings and SCRA compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing outside counsel relationships, billing, and performance.
  • Proven experience working in or alongside a deficiency recovery operation.
  • Ability to analyze collections performance data independently.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Understanding of settlement letters, agency placement, and legal escalation processes.
  • Background in non-prime auto lending (e.g., Westlake Financial, DriveTime, or similar) preferred.
  • JD, paralegal certification, or CRCM certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own qualification criteria for legal escalation of deficiency balances.
  • Review and approve all settlement letter content and collection scripts for regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and audit third-party collection agencies and BPO partners.
  • Oversee outside counsel selection, referrals, and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance for FDCPA, UDAAP, and SCRA across the portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain the state-by-state legal viability map for collections.
  • Manage bankruptcy filings and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries.
  • Provide compliance training for post charge-off staff.
  • Write and maintain all program policies, procedures, and version-controlled documentation.
