Requirements
- 5–7 years of progressive HR Business Partner experience with a focus on employee relations.
- Expert knowledge of US federal/state employment law (FLSA, ADA, FMLA) and Canadian employment law (BC, Ontario).
- Proven experience managing complex ER cases, investigations, and terminations.
- Experience administering leaves of absence under US and Canadian legislation.
- Strong proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT to accelerate HR workflows.
- Strong written communication skills for drafting investigation reports, PIPs, and termination documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related field (preferred).
- CPHR and/or SHRM certification (an asset).
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for employee relations, policy questions, and sensitive investigations.
- Lead and document workplace investigations to ensure procedural fairness and timely resolution.
- Manage end-to-end terminations, including drafting documentation and calculating entitlements under US and Canadian standards.
- Advise managers on performance improvement plans, disciplinary processes, and progressive discipline.
- Administer leaves of absence including medical, parental, and disability leaves in compliance with applicable US and Canadian legislation.
- Support organizational design initiatives, workforce restructuring, and change management planning.
- Leverage HR data and AI tools to identify workforce trends, draft documentation, and streamline project management.
