Requirements
- 10+ years of industry experience in platform or infrastructure engineering.
- 7+ years managing engineering teams (managing managers or leading multiple teams strongly preferred).
- Proven track record building and operating backend platforms or runtime services used by other engineering teams.
- Strong technical grounding in backend systems at scale, including high-traffic realtime or event-driven platforms.
- Direct experience or strong foundational knowledge in Python, Elixir, or Go.
- Demonstrated ability to steward technical direction across multiple workstreams.
- Ability to guide senior ICs through complex architectural decisions and platform migrations.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills with experience influencing at the executive level.
- High bar for engineering and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of senior software engineers and, over time, other engineering managers.
- Own team strategy and execution, empowering senior ICs to define technical direction.
- Shape the Backend Platforms roadmap, balancing new capabilities, developer productivity, and platform-level tech debt.
- Lead the team in evolving Python and Elixir backend cores, async messaging infrastructure, and storage/database layers.
- Own the platforms behind the realtime product surface, including Live Service and Auction Service.
- Drive measurable improvements in platform reliability, performance, and developer ergonomics.
- Partner with Reliability, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to shape architecture and standards.
- Build a culture of engineering and operational excellence with high code quality and clear ownership.
