Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in fraud investigations, risk operations, or financial crimes.
- Proven experience running complex, multi-week investigations independently.
- Deep practical mastery of fraud typologies across card, ACH, and P2P (account takeover, identity fraud, first/third-party fraud).
- Working knowledge of consumer protection regulations (FCRA, Reg Z, Reg E) and BSA/AML referral processes.
- Strong data proficiency with the ability to query and interpret data using SQL or Databricks.
- Experience with fraud and identity tools such as Alloy, Socure, Persona, LexisNexis, or Sardine.
- Demonstrated track record of implementing fraud controls based on investigative findings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for executive-level reporting.
- Preferred: Experience in fintech, banking, or consumer lending under regulatory exams.
- Preferred: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation.
Responsibilities
- Lead project-scale investigations into coordinated fraud rings, systemic attack patterns, and cross-product schemes from signal to root-cause analysis.
- Act as the senior investigative lead during fraud incidents, directing containment and authoring post-mortem remediation plans.
- Translate investigation findings into actionable fraud rules, thresholds, and process improvements to reduce loss and false-positive rates.
- Evaluate and select new identity, device, and behavioral fraud tooling.
- Utilize SQL and Databricks to analyze fraud data and package results for both investigators and executive leadership.
- Mentor Team Leads and Senior Risk Investigators, unblocking complex cases and formalizing playbooks to scale investigative quality.
- Represent Risk Operations in cross-functional forums, translating complex technical details into strategic tradeoffs for Product and Engineering stakeholders.
