Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 8+ years of industry experience.
- 3+ years of engineering management experience, specifically leading complex, high-volume consumer systems.
- Experience managing cross-platform teams (Backend and Mobile/Client) is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Go, Python).
- Strong background in video streaming technologies, CDN routing, and media ingestion.
- Understanding of multi-part uploads, encoding schedulers, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
- Proven ability to balance immediate performance fixes with long-term architectural overhauls.
- Experience defining and governing Service Level Objectives and Indicators (SLOs, SLIs).
- Experience managing media creation experience, such as video or image editing tools, composers, or UIs for creators.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural shift to elevate media to a first class citizen.
- Own key success metrics related to Quality of Services (QoS), including Time to First Frame (TTFF), stall/rebuffer rates, and exits before video screen (EBVS).
- Partner with infrastructure teams to define how to scale media via Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), edge computing, and caching strategies.
- Drive the standardization of the stack, from streaming protocols (HLS, MPEG-DASH) to container formats (CMAF, MP4).
- Establish a clear technical vision and direction for media systems.
- Navigate ambiguity and utilize data-driven insights to guide the team toward successful outcomes.
- Work in close partnership with Product, Data, and ML teams to ensure effective leadership and organizational alignment.
