  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an acquisitions editor of nonfiction books
  • Knowledgeable about acquisitions in core areas: general business, management, current affairs, societal change, and personal growth
  • Active networks, groups, and circles to identify and sign promising authors
  • Willingness to actively scout for authors digitally and in person
  • Ability to engage in substantive editorial work and project development to shape manuscript quality
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with an editorial team
  • Commitment to working for a mission-driven, collaborative company

Responsibilities

  • Conduct active outreach through multiple mediums to locate suitable authors
  • Acquire, develop, and sign new publication agreements for target nonfiction markets
  • Provide focused, in-depth editorial coaching and development from concept to final manuscript
  • Facilitate design and production processes by preparing authors and managing manuscript transmittal
  • Coach authors on developing marketing plans and connecting with internal sales and marketing teams
  • Coordinate with internal departments to provide project and author status updates
  • Prepare book tip sheets and P&L reports for the publications board
