- Minimum of five years’ experience as an acquisitions editor of nonfiction books
- Knowledgeable about acquisitions in core areas: general business, management, current affairs, societal change, and personal growth
- Active networks, groups, and circles to identify and sign promising authors
- Willingness to actively scout for authors digitally and in person
- Ability to engage in substantive editorial work and project development to shape manuscript quality
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with an editorial team
- Commitment to working for a mission-driven, collaborative company
Responsibilities
- Conduct active outreach through multiple mediums to locate suitable authors
- Acquire, develop, and sign new publication agreements for target nonfiction markets
- Provide focused, in-depth editorial coaching and development from concept to final manuscript
- Facilitate design and production processes by preparing authors and managing manuscript transmittal
- Coach authors on developing marketing plans and connecting with internal sales and marketing teams
- Coordinate with internal departments to provide project and author status updates
- Prepare book tip sheets and P&L reports for the publications board
