Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Must be admitted to the California State Bar or otherwise authorized to practice law in California.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in energy, regulatory, public agency, administrative law, or policy space.
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience.
- Expertise in energy sector contracting, including master agreements under EEI or WSPP.
- Working knowledge and experience with CAISO tariffs, business practice manuals, and rules of conduct.
- Knowledge of California’s energy regulatory environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written, speaking, and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical matters.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work with minimal oversight.
- Top-tier law firm (AmLaw 200) or relevant in-house experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Represent CPA in contract negotiations, including EEI and WSPP Master Agreements and long-term power purchase agreements.
- Review and provide counsel on competitive solicitations and procurement processes.
- Advise the market operations team on resource onboarding, optimization, settlements, and asset management.
- Maintain working knowledge of California Independent System Operators (CAISO) tariffs, manuals, and rules of conduct.
- Support asset ownership requirements for Power Ready Phase 2 and transmission line projects.
- Review and draft compliance reporting for regulatory agencies, including integrated resource plans and renewables portfolio standards.
