Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a corporate tax environment or public accounting firm.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of tax accounting principles.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of tax software systems and web-based tax compliance/research tools.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam is preferred.
  • Prior insurance industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review Statutory income tax accounting, reporting, and investment tax adjustments.
  • Manage state and local tax compliance, including Premium, Municipal, Sales and Use, Income, Franchise, Property, and Excise taxes.
  • Oversee the outsourcing process with accounting firms for state tax compliance.
  • Maintain tax technology systems, including configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and automation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to enhance tax operational efficiency and system reliability.
  • Conduct tax research and prepare quarterly management reporting for state and local tax obligations.
