Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3–5 years of relevant tax experience, with a strong focus on sales and use tax compliance.
  • Foundational understanding of state and local tax (SALT) principles.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Experience using tax compliance platforms such as Avalara or Vertex is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to conduct tax research using online tools and specialized tax research platforms.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining accountability and accuracy.
  • CPA designation is highly preferred or actively pursued.
  • Prior public accounting experience is considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support multi-state sales and use tax compliance activities, including data gathering, return preparation, reconciliations, and filing support.
  • Research and analyze taxability of transactions by reviewing contracts, invoices, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with use tax accruals and identify potential exposure risks across jurisdictions.
  • Support exemption certificate management and ensure proper documentation and compliance controls.
  • Assist with federal, state, and international income tax compliance activities, including data collection and payment initiation.
  • Assist in responding to tax notices, audits, and information requests from regulatory authorities.
  • Support nexus studies, state registrations, and ongoing compliance requirements across jurisdictions.
  • Conduct tax research and monitor legislative changes impacting state and local tax (SALT) obligations.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and enhancements to tax reporting workflows.
