Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- 3+ years in an Architect, Staff or equivalent senior-IC role.
- Hands-on experience as an engineer: regular reading, writing, and reviewing of production code.
- Deep experience designing/operating distributed, event-driven systems in production.
- Practical experience with Domain-Driven Design.
- Familiarity with decentralised architectural governance (RFCs, ADRs).
- Experience in regulated fintech, payments or banking.
- Deep experience designing security-first architectures and threat modelling.
- Strong perspective on modern AI/ML, LLMs, and applied AI.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, and 12-factor apps.
- AWS as our cloud platform, GCP as our data warehousing.
- Strong CI/CD, automated testing, and SDLC practices.
Responsibilities
- Own and facilitate the Architectural Advice Forum (AAF), driving decentralised decision-making.
- Build production-grade Proofs of Concept to de-risk new patterns and validate architectural ideas.
- Partner with the CTO on AI strategy and prototyping solutions.
- Own cross-cutting standardisation across backend, web and mobile engineering.
- Define and uphold the engineering quality bar across testing, code review, security, and performance.
- Embed Security-First Architecture and set threat-modelling and defence-in-depth patterns.
- Champion Domain-Driven Design and Event-Driven Architecture.
- Collaborate with the SRE team on reliability, incident response, and developer platform evolution.
- Coach and mentor engineers through influence and inspiration.
