  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding liability, recovery, and overpayments.
  • Excellent communication skills — written & verbal.
  • Comfortable handling complex queries and sensitive situations.
  • Highly organised, accurate, and deadline-focused.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using online processing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and process Housing Benefit & Council Tax Support claims.
  • Manage Council Tax & Non-Domestic Rates billing, recovery & enforcement.
  • Handle overpayments, refunds & payment arrangements.
  • Prepare cases for court or tribunal.
  • Respond to customer and stakeholder queries.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, policy & DWP guidance.
  • Identify irregularities and escalate appropriately.
