Requirements
- 5+ years experience in accounting (startup/scale up experience strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of German GAAP, German charts of accounts (SKR 03 or SKR 04), and debits & credits
- DATEV systems experience required
- Experience working with accounting software/ERP
- Familiarity with German payroll/tax/compliance topics (VAT, OSS, corporate & trade tax, withholding tax, etc.)
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building processes from scratch
- Fluency in German (C1) and solid English skills (B2 - C1)
Responsibilities
- Support day to day German accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping
- Partner with external accounting providers and review local accounting deliverables
- Prepare and post journal entries (revenue, accruals, prepaids, payroll, invoices, intercompany, etc.)
- Support and improve month-end close and reconciliations (bank, AP/AR, etc.)
- Help manage and ensure compliance with German payroll, tax, and statutory reporting
- Ensure clean documentation and internal controls
- Support German GAAP year end reporting and liaise with auditors
- Act as primary point of contact for limited office operations
