Requirements
- Solid understanding of the Vulkan core spec, including command buffers, render passes, synchronization, memory management, and pipelines.
- Familiarity with Vulkan validation layers and debugging workflow.
- Understanding of GPU hardware concepts such as queues, tilers vs IMR, and memory hierarchies.
- Comfortable reading and navigating Linux kernel code.
- Knowledge of DRM fundamentals including GEM, dma-buf/prime buffer sharing, and GPU job submission.
- Awareness of Mesa architecture including Gallium and driver structure.
- Proficiency in C and C++, including pointer arithmetic, memory management, and kernel-style coding.
- Ability to read specs and documentation independently.
- Open source contribution mindset.
Responsibilities
- Contribute directly to Mesa and the Linux DRM subsystem, writing Vulkan driver code for the mainline.
- Debug GPU behavior, reverse engineer hardware quirks, and fix rendering issues.
- Participate in open-source community code reviews and represent Collabora at conferences.
- Translate hardware vendor and client requirements into upstream-compatible solutions.
- Balance upstream correctness with hardware bring-up timelines and performance targets.
- Advise product teams on driver and GPU architecture decisions.
