Requirements

  • Proven experience developing new business opportunities with government agencies, public institutions, or similar organizations, resulting in multi-year contracts or partnerships.
  • Strong track record of building and managing relationships with government leaders, nonprofits, community organizations, policymakers, funders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to inspire action and clearly articulate mission, strategy, and impact.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic fundraising, including securing support from foundations and institutional funders.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities, particularly for grant proposals, reports, strategic documents, and persuasive communications.
  • Experience managing external partnerships and representing organizations with credibility and professionalism.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities, solve complex challenges, and build scalable systems.
  • Understanding of government contracting processes, state budget cycles, or legislative funding mechanisms preferred.
  • Experience working with lobbyists, policy advocates, or government relations initiatives is preferred.
  • Commitment to advancing equitable access to career opportunities and supporting diverse communities.
  • Culturally competent leader with the ability to engage thoughtfully across different backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage priorities, and succeed in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute business development strategies to expand partnerships with new state education agencies and increase organizational reach.
  • Develop and manage a strong pipeline of prospective partners, including identifying opportunities, initiating relationships, and securing long-term contracts.
  • Establish connections with decision-makers and present the organization’s mission, model, and impact to potential partners.
  • Create systems and processes to support effective business development operations and opportunity tracking.
  • Monitor legislation, state budgets, and policy developments to identify partnership and funding opportunities.
  • Increase organizational visibility among education leaders, policymakers, advocates, and other influential stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, events, and relevant forums through speaking engagements and thought leadership activities.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen brand reputation and external positioning among key audiences.
  • Partner with internal leadership teams to maintain and renew existing contracts and funding relationships.
  • Lead strategies to secure continued financial support through government funding, philanthropic partnerships, and other revenue sources.
  • Develop and manage foundation fundraising efforts, including grant proposals, reporting, and relationship cultivation.
  • Support the creation of compelling written materials, presentations, and external communications that advance organizational goals.
