Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience across account management, customer success, client services, tax technology, accounting, or indirect tax.
- Proven experience owning ongoing customer relationships and measurable customer outcomes.
- Working knowledge of US sales and use tax, VAT/GST, or another indirect-tax discipline.
- Proficiency in working with structured data, spreadsheets, CRM systems, and operational workflows.
- Strong ability to communicate complex tax and compliance issues clearly.
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving issues through resolution.
- Strong customer and commercial judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple high-stakes accounts and competing deadlines effectively.
- Comfort working in an environment with early-stage ambiguity.
- Experience at an indirect-tax software or services provider (e.g., Avalara, TaxJar, Vertex) is a strong preference.
- Experience supporting multistate sales-tax compliance, registrations, notices, nexus analysis, or taxability questions is a strong preference.
- Experience with renewals, retention, expansion, or net revenue retention is a strong preference.
- Experience working at a high-growth or early-stage company is a strong preference.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary ongoing relationship owner for a portfolio of customers.
- Learn each customer’s business model, systems, jurisdictions, compliance footprint, and priorities.
- Provide clear visibility into compliance programs, open issues, and deadlines via regular check-ins and strategic reviews.
- Own customer health, retention, and renewal readiness, identifying risks and leading renewal conversations.
- Identify expansion opportunities related to new jurisdictions, entities, products, or growth.
- Partner with Tax and Operations to resolve filing issues, notices, and data problems.
- Develop account plans, health signals, renewal forecasts, and communication templates.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering by turning customer feedback into documented workflows.
