Requirements
- Deep hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production.
- Expertise in ingestion pipelines, storage engines, or query execution.
- Strong software craftsmanship and ability to write maintainable, performant software.
- Strong experience in Go, or deep experience in other systems languages like Rust, C, or C++.
- Proven track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives.
- Experience owning production services, carrying a pager, and meeting SLOs.
- Strong communication skills for a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
- Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems is a plus.
- Experience with Kubernetes and multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure at scale.
- Experience with columnar storage formats like Parquet.
- Familiarity with building for AI/LLM consumers is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
- Own the architecture of core Tempo components including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
- Design structured, deterministic APIs suitable for agents, LLMs, and external integrators.
- Drive operational excellence by meeting SLOs and reducing toil through automation.
- Partner with Product and sibling teams to deliver observability products.
- Mentor engineers through design feedback, code reviews, and pairing.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident responses.
- Contribute to open source and engage with the community.
