Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification.
  • 3+ years of experience as a medical coder in a healthcare setting.
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience managing teams of 5 or more staff members.
  • Strong expertise in CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, LCDs, NCDs, CMS guidelines, and NCCI regulations.
  • Solid understanding of payer policies and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including moderate Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities for interpreting data and regulatory updates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-department collaboration.
  • Preferred: Experience in podiatry, orthopedic coding, or California IPA environments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily billing and coding activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely claim submission.
  • Monitor team productivity, quality, and operational performance to identify trends and process improvements.
  • Provide training, coaching, and ongoing education to staff regarding coding guidelines and best practices.
  • Serve as a primary resource for coding inquiries and resolve complex billing issues.
  • Collaborate with operations, eligibility, and collections departments to address billing performance issues.
  • Conduct audits and quality reviews to ensure adherence to CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and payer regulations.
  • Support month-end billing processes and internal reporting.
