Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on IT ownership at a remote-first startup, scale-up, or creative agency.
- Proven experience building an IT function from scratch or meaningfully restructuring an existing one.
- Deep practical BYOD experience securing a distributed, contractor-heavy workforce.
- Strong identity and access management foundation using Azure AD and Google Workspace.
- Applied experience with security frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or SOC 2 Type II.
- Working knowledge of GDPR and CCPA regulations.
- Excellent written communication skills for creating technical documentation and runbooks.
- Builder mindset with the ability to ship systems that operate autonomously.
- Familiarity with POPIA or PIPEDA is considered a plus.
- Relevant certifications like CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Own the IT function end-to-end, including systems, identity, access management, onboarding, offboarding, and vendor relationships.
- Design a secure IT infrastructure for BYOD and distributed teams, accounting for contractor workflows and cross-border data requirements.
- Rationalize the software stack by eliminating shadow IT and consolidating overlapping SaaS tools to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Implement baseline security measures such as MFA, SSO, endpoint protection, and a risk register aligned to NIST CSF or ISO 27001.
- Prepare the organization for SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance while managing enterprise security questionnaires.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks to ensure the function is scalable and does not depend on a single individual.
