Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in health information administration or equivalent degree.
- Minimum 3 years of medical coding and/or revenue management experience.
- Considerable progressively responsible administrative medical information management experience.
- Knowledge and experience with electronic health records (EHR) and health information management applications.
- Possession of one of the following certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC.
- Strong proficiency in ICD-10-CM, HCC coding, and CPT-4 procedure coding.
- Experience with Outpatient Code Editor (OCE), National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI), and Medicare Code Editor (MCE) edits.
- Ability to develop training materials and conduct educational sessions.
- Previous management experience preferred.
- Seven years of relevant industry experience in health system-wide outpatient medical coding and revenue cycle operations preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversee operations for outpatient medical record coding, denials, claim edits, and charge capture.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve financial and compliance goals.
- Monitor employee training, productivity, quality, and overall performance for coding and charge capture specialists.
- Conduct focused and random audits of medical records for coding and compliance (OCE, NCCI, MCE).
- Educate providers, nurses, and finance teams on advanced clinical documentation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve revenue cycle and billing accuracy.
