Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health information administration or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of medical coding and/or revenue management experience.
  • Considerable progressively responsible administrative medical information management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic health records (EHR) and health information management applications.
  • Possession of one of the following certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC.
  • Strong proficiency in ICD-10-CM, HCC coding, and CPT-4 procedure coding.
  • Experience with Outpatient Code Editor (OCE), National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI), and Medicare Code Editor (MCE) edits.
  • Ability to develop training materials and conduct educational sessions.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Seven years of relevant industry experience in health system-wide outpatient medical coding and revenue cycle operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations for outpatient medical record coding, denials, claim edits, and charge capture.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve financial and compliance goals.
  • Monitor employee training, productivity, quality, and overall performance for coding and charge capture specialists.
  • Conduct focused and random audits of medical records for coding and compliance (OCE, NCCI, MCE).
  • Educate providers, nurses, and finance teams on advanced clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve revenue cycle and billing accuracy.
