- Current AAPC or AHIMA Certification for a minimum of 3 years.
- Minimum of 3+ years of professional coding experience.
- Strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Understanding of state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
- Ability to research, analyze data, and resolve coding issues.
- Ability to read and interpret medical documentation and clinical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in coding.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience working in a medical billing environment.
- Strict adherence to HIPAA compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Responsibilities
- Independently review and resolve all assigned front-end claim holds.
- Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes with appropriate modifiers.
- Review medical records to determine appropriate codes for services and diagnoses.
- Ensure all diagnosis codes meet local and national medical necessity guidelines.
- Maintain a minimum of 90% coding accuracy.
- Utilize internal coding resources and payer guidelines to ensure compliant coding.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and maintain privacy standards.
- Participate in department, one-on-one, and mentorship meetings.
- Escalate identified client trends and coding questions to the Coding Team Lead.
- Maintain and complete all CEU requirements.
