Requirements
- Proven track record leading platform migration initiatives (v1→v2 architecture transitions) while maintaining backward compatibility and availability.
- Strong command of streaming and queuing infrastructure (Kafka or equivalent), including partitioning strategy and consumer group semantics.
- Deep industry experience in distributed systems and data pipeline engineering at enterprise scale.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating systems with terabyte-scale ingestion and high-throughput event processing.
- Fluency in relational and document data modeling at scale (Postgres and MongoDB).
- Expertise in query planning, connection pooling, and online schema changes on large, continuously written tables.
- Experience collaborating with leadership to define and execute multi-quarter technical roadmaps.
- Solid AWS fundamentals.
- Comfort operating in TypeScript and Node.
- Ability to articulate complex systems tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Curiosity and willingness to apply AI tools responsibly to improve efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of Vanta’s resource data model from a Mongo-centric solution to a schema-aware Postgres-backed solution while maintaining backward compatibility.
- Drive solutions across dependent teams to ensure successful platform evolution.
- Design for correctness under eventual consistency, including idempotent session handling and reconciliation strategies.
- Evolve Vanta's data ingestion and pipeline architecture for reliable, high-throughput processing at terabyte scale.
- Transform the Query API into a production-grade platform with schema versioning, per-tenant isolation, and predictable latency.
- Build auditable data infrastructure to support SOC 2 and FedRAMP compliance.
- Diagnose and resolve production-level failures such as hot partitions, unbounded fan-out, and online rewrites.
- Set architectural direction for streaming (Kafka), caching (Redis), and persistent storage (Postgres, MongoDB) layers.
- Mentor senior engineers and champion engineering excellence in reliability and observability.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and improve systems architecture.
