Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a business or insurance-related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of eight years of experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting.
- Strong understanding of countrywide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms.
- Proven ability to apply strong underwriting judgment and make complex decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to groups.
- Proficiency in computer systems, internet research, and keyboarding.
- Staff underwriting experience within the assigned line of business or segment is preferred.
- Professional insurance designations such as AU, CIC, or CPCU are preferred.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate effective problem-solving.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report for occasional travel.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with people leaders to implement strategic product and underwriting strategies for assigned industry segments.
- Develop and communicate underwriting best practices and technical guidance enterprise-wide.
- Analyze premium and loss data regularly to ensure profitable growth and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Draft new coverage language, identify product improvements, and evaluate the feasibility of market opportunities.
- Partner with risk improvement, claims, and actuarial teams to support business goals.
- Evaluate underwriting risks and provide authorization for accounts exceeding branch-level authority.
- Develop and deliver underwriting training programs and workshops for regional and enterprise staff.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for complex underwriting issues and contribute to technical bulletins or white papers.
