Requirements
- J.D. degree and active bar admission.
- 5-7+ years of legal experience in government, nonprofit, litigation, policy, or regulatory settings.
- Knowledge of democratic governance, constitutional law, administrative law, or civil rights.
- Exceptional legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Demonstrated success managing complex projects and multiple workstreams.
- Strong relationship-building and coalition management skills.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, including briefing senior leaders.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams.
- Sound judgment and discretion in managing sensitive issues.
- Commitment to Democracy Forward's mission and inclusive workplace culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead legal research and analysis on emerging threats to democratic governance including abuses of government power and administrative law matters.
- Support systems for tracking litigation, legal developments, and trends affecting democratic governance.
- Produce high-quality written work product including legal memoranda, issue-area guides, and strategic assessments.
- Translate complex legal developments into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences.
- Lead and support Democracy 2025 working groups and cross-organizational initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders across the network.
- Convene and facilitate meetings, strategy discussions, and trainings with partners.
- Partner with litigation, policy, communications, and research teams to ensure coordinated responses.
