Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of life insurance underwriting experience.
- Proven ability to underwrite large and complex cases, including impaired risks.
- Experience working within the independent agent / brokerage (BGA) distribution channel.
- Demonstrated decision-making authority on higher face amounts and complex risk profiles.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to service excellence.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain productivity.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite complex individual life insurance cases, including impaired risk, with face amounts typically above $5M and authority up to $10M.
- Analyze medical, financial, and non-medical information to make sound, timely underwriting decisions.
- Provide second signature support and guidance to junior underwriters.
- Partner closely with internal sales and distribution teams to support business objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with independent agents, BGAs, and key distribution partners.
- Manage a high-volume caseload while meeting service and quality standards.
- Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to team development through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
