Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in individual giving, corporate sponsorships, or grant writing.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Must reside in the DC Metro area; preference for 3+ years of residency in the local community.
  • Ability to travel locally up to 40% of the time.
  • Ability to travel out of town for periodic staff offsites and company events.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the military family experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director with local fundraising strategy to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of at least 30 new major gift prospects through the full donor lifecycle.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
  • Collaborate with national development teams to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and activity tracking in Salesforce.
  • Support grant proposal writing and reporting.
  • Represent Blue Star Families at community events and networking opportunities.
