About Movement Labs

Movement Labs is the R&D powerhouse for the progressive movement, building technology to stop fascism and shift power. You will join a team that has already sent over 200 million texts and mobilized more than 11,000 volunteers. The team develops innovative tactics, grounded in research and real-world testing, to help progressive candidates and organizations win elections. They partner with advocacy groups, grassroots organizers, and electoral campaigns across all 50 states. Their work has verifiably shifted 0.33% of votes in battleground states in 2024, demonstrating tangible impact. From incubating new social welfare organizations to running over 100 randomized controlled trials on voter behavior, Movement Labs actively strengthens democracy. They build a country that works for everyone, focusing on red and rural areas and historically ignored communities.

How We Work

Movement Labs operates with a remote-first philosophy, with teammates collaborating across the United States. You will find a nimble, no-drama organizational culture that values empathy and bold experimentation. The team moves fast, innovates with purpose, and maintains exceptional follow-through. While they emphasize a family-like atmosphere and commitment to impact, you should be prepared for a rapidly evolving environment. The political calendar dictates the pace, requiring adaptability and flexibility, especially during election cycles. You will join a team that is comfortable operating on a political calendar, balancing greenfield builds with pragmatic plumbing and rapid response.

Engineering at Movement Labs

As a Data Engineer, you will build and optimize the data architecture that drives progressive political power. You will design and implement scalable data pipelines for targeting and engagement, serving as a technical partner to program teams. Your work extends foundational datasets, facilitating new outreach strategies for hundreds of partner organizations. This includes shaping APIs, replication, federation layers, and experiment randomization for their randomized controlled trial (RCT) platform. You will optimize the data platform and orchestration layer, ensuring cost-efficiency, reliability, and runtime performance during high-stakes election cycles. The team uses a modern data stack including cloud data warehouses like BigQuery, transformation frameworks like dbt, and orchestrators such as Dagster or Airflow. You will also build AI tooling, such as QC agents for data deliveries, to make the internal team faster and more efficient. The work blends greenfield projects, pragmatic plumbing, and incident response, with the mix shifting according to the political calendar.
