Requirements
- Proven experience leading large, distributed engineering organizations with management-of-managers experience.
- Track record of owning critical production systems in high-scale environments.
- Deep familiarity with distributed systems, traffic management, and capacity planning.
- Expertise in platform engineering concepts, including containerization and Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and supporting multi-tenant SaaS environments.
- Strategic judgment regarding complex technical trade-offs like build vs. buy and architectural patterns.
- Experience leading teams through significant organizational change or technical pivots.
- Strong alignment with ownership and customer-outcome values.
- Proven ability to improve system reliability and optimize infrastructure efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute a cohesive roadmap for Production Engineering and Tenant Experience teams.
- Maintain accountability for GitLab’s production reliability, incident management, and service-level objectives.
- Manage and coach a senior leadership team to foster high performance and team structure.
- Guide the technical evolution of the platform architecture, focusing on cloud efficiency and modern upgrade experiences.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and Reliability teams to align infrastructure investments with business priorities.
- Translate organizational strategy into actionable technical roadmaps.
- Champion initiatives to reduce operational toil and standardize platform interfaces.
