Requirements
- Proven track record leading small, high-autonomy engineering teams.
- Background in developer productivity, CI/CD, platform engineering, or infrastructure reliability.
- Deep technical understanding of build systems and pipeline performance drivers.
- Strong root-cause analysis instinct and demonstrated focus on talent quality over team size.
- Comfort operating under metrics-driven accountability and honest reporting.
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with AI-assisted development workflows (nice to have).
- Prior experience running time-boxed pilot or 0-to-1 initiatives (nice to have).
- Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD internals or large-scale build/test systems (nice to have).
Responsibilities
- Define and refine the operating model for the non-linear productivity pilot, including diagnostic processes and fix prioritization.
- Identify and prioritize step-change productivity improvements across the SDLC, addressing issues like flaky tests, review latency, and tool gaps.
- Translate broad, ambiguous mandates into concrete, time-boxed roadmaps with clear milestones.
- Source, evaluate, and hire 4 exceptional engineers for the pilot squad.
- Lead hands-on investigation to baseline and track system-level metrics including MRPM, pipeline success rate, and pipeline latency.
- Implement durable, compounding fixes such as shift-left quality changes and improved context for human and agentic contributors.
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure fixes are adopted and provide transparent reporting on metric movement to leadership.
