Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within a law firm, professional services organization, or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP standards.
  • Experience with general ledger management, reconciliations, billing processes, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with legal billing systems and trust accounting practices preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms.
  • Experience with legal or accounting systems such as Clio, Elite, Aderant, or QuickBooks is a plus.
  • CPA certification or progress toward certification is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and client information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, finance teams, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and support accurate financial recordkeeping.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end closing activities, including account analysis and reporting preparation.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations, including operating accounts and client trust accounts.
  • Support billing processes by reviewing invoices, tracking expenses, and assisting with client account management.
  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including collection tracking and payment follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with trust accounting requirements, financial regulations, and internal procedures.
  • Prepare financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and operational summaries.
  • Track client retainers and ensure proper allocation and management of client funds.
  • Analyze financial data, investigate discrepancies, and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Assist with external audits, tax preparation activities, and financial documentation requests.
