Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 8+ years of experience in substation design engineering.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary substation design for utility, renewable, data center, or industrial projects.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, ANSI).
- Expertise in technical design software for short circuit studies, arc flash analysis, and equipment sizing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with self-motivation and organizational skills.
- Experience working directly with utilities and owner engineering teams.
- Up to 20% travel required to client sites and industry conferences.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead engineer and technical authority for medium- and high-voltage substation projects.
- Perform and lead detailed design including one-line diagrams, physical layouts, grounding systems, and protection schemes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs into larger electrical and grid infrastructure.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for engineering approaches, design standards, and technical risk management.
- Support construction, testing, and commissioning through field engineering, RFIs, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and review equipment specifications for major substation components.
- Identify and implement opportunities for AI-enabled tools and workflow automation to improve design efficiency.
