Job Details

Track record of leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives involving design, delivery, and operations.
Substantial hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production (ingestion, storage, or query engines).
Strong software craftsmanship with the ability to write clean, robust, and performant code.
Proficiency in Go, or deep experience in other systems languages (Rust, C, C++).
Operational mindset with experience managing production services and reducing toil.
Strong communication skills with the ability to lead through design docs and asynchronous writing.
Customer-focused approach to breaking down complex problems into MVP iterations.
Experience in fully remote, globally distributed teams is a plus.
Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems is a plus.
Experience operating multi-tenant, multi-cell SaaS infrastructure at scale on Kubernetes is a plus.

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
Own the architecture of core Tempo components, including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
Design APIs for both humans and AI agents to ensure reliable integration.
Drive operational excellence by managing SLOs, automation, and incident response.
Partner with product managers and sibling teams to align on product goals.
Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pair programming.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident responses.
Contribute to the Tempo open-source project and engage with the community.
