Job Details

Track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives.
Substantial hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production.
Strong software craftsmanship with a focus on writing clean, robust, and performant code.
Strong proficiency in Go, or deep experience in systems languages such as Rust, C, or C++.
Strong operational mindset with experience owning production services and carrying a pager.
Experience breaking complex problems into short feedback loops (analyze, design, MVP, iterate).
Excellent communication skills for a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems (preferred).
Experience designing query languages or APIs for programmatic consumption (preferred).
Experience with columnar storage formats or analytical workloads (preferred).
Experience operating multi-tenant, multi-cell SaaS infrastructure on Kubernetes (preferred).

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
Own the architecture of core Tempo components, including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
Design structured, deterministic, and discoverable APIs for humans and agents.
Drive operational excellence by owning outcomes against concrete SLOs and reducing toil.
Partner with Product and sibling teams to understand consumption and unblock dependencies.
Mentor engineers through design feedback, code reviews, and pair programming.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response and post-incident learning.
Contribute to open-source community engagement and steer project development.
