Job Details

Proven technical leadership leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives spanning design, delivery, and operations.
Deep systems experience building and operating distributed data systems (ingestion, storage, query).
Strong software craftsmanship skills with a focus on maintainable, performant code.
Proficiency in Go, or deep experience in systems languages like Rust, C, or C++.
Operational mindset with experience owning production services and managing SLOs.
Strong communication skills for a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
Ability to break complex problems into short feedback loops and iterative MVPs.
Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems is a plus.
Experience designing query languages (SQL/TraceQL) or programmatic APIs is a plus.
Experience with columnar storage (e.g., Parquet) or multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure on Kubernetes is a plus.

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
Own the architecture of core Tempo components: ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
Design structured, deterministic APIs for humans and AI agents.
Drive operational excellence by owning outcomes against concrete SLOs and reducing toil.
Partner with product and engineering teams to identify and ship unblocking features.
Mentor engineers through design feedback, code reviews, and pairing.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident responses.
Contribute to open source by engaging with the community and reviewing contributions.
