Requirements
- Technical leadership track record of leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives.
- Deep hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production.
- Strong software craftsmanship skills with clean, robust, and performant code.
- Strong Go programming skills or deep experience in systems languages like Rust, C, or C++.
- Operational mindset with experience owning production services and reducing toil.
- Customer-focused and pragmatic approach to solving complex problems.
- Strong communication skills for a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
- Ability to lead through design docs, reviews, and code rather than hierarchy.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
- Own the architecture of core Tempo components: ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
- Design APIs for humans and agents that are structured, deterministic, and discoverable.
- Drive operational excellence and own outcomes against concrete SLOs.
- Partner with Product and sibling teams to understand consumption and unblock dependencies.
- Mentor engineers through code review, design feedback, and pair programming.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response.
- Contribute to open source and engage with the community.
