Requirements
- Deep hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production (ingestion, storage, or query execution).
- Technical leadership experience leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives through design, delivery, and operations.
- Strong software craftsmanship with a focus on writing clean, robust, and performant code.
- Strong experience with Go or significant experience in systems languages such as Rust, C, or C++.
- Operational mindset with experience owning production services, carrying a pager, and managing SLOs.
- Customer-focused approach to breaking down complex problems into iterative MVPs.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and lead through design documents and reviews in an asynchronous, remote environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
- Own the architecture of core Tempo components, including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
- Design structured, deterministic, and discoverable APIs for humans and agents.
- Drive operational excellence by owning outcomes against SLOs and reducing toil.
- Partner with product and sibling teams to align on consumption and unblock initiatives.
- Mentor engineers through code review, design feedback, and pair programming.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response and post-incident learning.
- Contribute to and engage with the open-source community.
