Requirements

  • Extensive experience in developing and maintaining productive relationships with editorial or publishing services providers.
  • Proven track record in sourcing vendors and managing the end-to-end RFI/RFP process and onboarding.
  • Experience in drafting, enforcing, and auditing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and vendor KPIs.
  • Strong understanding of publishing workflows including manuscript submission, peer review, production, copyediting, and typesetting.
  • Familiarity with publishing standards such as JATS XML, DOI registration, and ORCID integration.
  • Knowledge of ethical publishing guidelines (COPE, ICMJE) and compliance requirements (data privacy, accessibility).
  • Proficiency with manuscript tracking systems like Editorial Manager and content management systems.
  • Experience using data tracking and reporting tools like Tableau.
  • Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams including legal, product, editorial, and production.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and professional communication skills.
  • Advanced degree or relevant professional certifications in procurement, operations, or project management is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee vendor use in end-to-end publishing workflows to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Manage vendor contract renewals, including negotiations and updating SLAs based on volume forecasts.
  • Lead the end-to-end RFP process for new suppliers, from drafting documentation to final selection.
  • Handle vendor onboarding, including establishing best practices and communication templates.
  • Develop and monitor auditing frameworks and KPIs to track vendor adherence to SLAs.
  • Train internal staff on best practices for vendor engagement and relationship management.
  • Coordinate capacity planning and vendor-side headcount requirements based on submission and publication volume forecasts.
  • Monitor new supplier-side tools and technologies to support efficient peer review and publication workflows.
