Requirements
- Healthcare related Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Minimum five years’ experience, preferably in coding quality reviews and/or coding audits.
- Three years’ specific experience in Inpatient hospital coding.
- Familiarity with DRGs, APCs, IPPS, OPPS, NCCI guidelines, and medical necessity/compliance guidelines.
- Experience working with CDI teams, writing queries, and working with multiple EMR systems.
- Must hold a recognized acute care coding credential such as CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CIC, or COC.
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion.
- Completion of all assigned compliance courses within specified periods.
Responsibilities
- Perform assigned coding quality reviews for all coding professionals in adherence to industry and company standards.
- Identify trends and recommend appropriate education for coding professionals based on review findings.
- Prepare audit summaries for distribution to facility CFOs and compliance departments.
- Monitor assigned coding quality review schedules and propose modifications to improve audit effectiveness.
- Serve as a coding resource for assigned questions.
- Attend educational webinars and participate in formal and informal coding discussions.
- Maintain at least twenty continuing education hours annually and maintain required credentials.
