Requirements
- 10+ years of backend or platform engineering experience building distributed, production-grade systems.
- Expert-level coding skills in TypeScript and Python.
- Hands-on experience with search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Lucene, or vector databases) including custom configuration and relevance tuning.
- Strong understanding of semantic and hybrid retrieval: embeddings, transformer models, vector similarity, and ranking logic.
- Proven ability to build and operate search infrastructure on AWS, including containerization, CI/CD, and observability.
- Experience with vector databases and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) workflows.
- Familiarity with scientific or unstructured data processing.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with scientists and product teams.
- Exposure to NLP, LLMs, and embedding generation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort navigating ambiguity.
Responsibilities
- Architect a full-stack Search Platform across indexing, scoring, query understanding, and retrieval.
- Improve search quality using evaluation metrics like precision@K, recall@K, MRR, and relevance testing.
- Engineer hybrid search pipelines blending sparse, structured, and dense retrieval.
- Lead technical development by writing code, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers.
- Own and operate search infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and observability.
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and TypeScript.
- Collaborate with AI Scientists to integrate transformer models and embeddings into production workflows.
- Implement entity resolution and knowledge graph pipelines to link chemical and biological entities.
