Requirements
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
- 10+ years of professional practice in corporate or commercial law.
- Experience managing external legal counsel and optimizing legal spend.
- Familiarity with 501(c)(3) compliance and exempt organization law, or ability to learn quickly.
- Understanding of IP strategy, licensing, and corporate transactions.
- Capacity to manage complex organizational structures including subsidiaries and international entities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide actionable advice to non-lawyers.
- Proven leadership experience in a legal function.
Responsibilities
- Own Convergent's legal strategy and provide counsel to the leadership team.
- Lead IP strategy, governance, and licensing/spinout transaction structures.
- Manage and mentor the internal legal team, including General Counsel and Contracts Counsel.
- Oversee relationships with outside counsel across nonprofit, patent, corporate, and international law.
- Ensure 501(c)(3) compliance across all portfolio entities.
- Navigate complex regulatory environments including GDPR, OFAC, and anti-bribery statutes.
- Develop systems and playbooks to enable organizational scalability.
- Drive deal strategy for university partnerships and entity graduations.
