Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent law degree.
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario and member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of experience practicing law and providing legal advice to corporate.
- Experience at a Canadian law firm and/or in-house.
- Solid negotiation and contract drafting skills involving RFPs, MSAs, SoWs, and various vendor/procurement contracts.
- Strong critical thinking skills to identify legal issues and risks.
- Proven ability as a strong communicator to deliver advice that is clear and practical.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, procurement, and contract management tools.
- Knowledge of legal issues and laws affecting not-for-profit organizations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain carriage of various files with oversight of the General Counsel.
- Research, identify, and provide updates on case law, legislative requirements, and legal trends.
- Help identify legal issues, risks, and develop strategies to mitigate legal risks.
- Consult with the General Counsel on all complex matters prior to giving advice to stakeholders.
- Draft and negotiate a variety of procurement, supplier, and vendor agreements.
- Provide clear legal advice on issues, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of organizational operations to provide proactive advice.
