Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in software development, testing, design, and architecture.
- Advanced SQL expertise: reading queries, designing indexes, tuning joins, and refactoring for speed.
- Strong Python and Django experience building production services and APIs.
- Experience as a gatekeeper for database performance in code reviews.
- Experience with MySQL and/or Postgres.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and debug production code using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and prevent performance and optimization problems.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Track record of effective mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Experience with B2B API integrations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as one of the owners for application and database performance.
- Review pull requests with an eye for query cost, indexing, and data access patterns.
- Own external API integrations and data exchange, including authentication, rate limiting, and retries.
- Design and ship backend features and services in Python and Django.
- Diagnose production issues, lead debugging sessions, and improve observability.
- Proactively identify performance risks and coach the team on best practices.
- Maintain strong automated test coverage and clear documentation.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and actionable feedback.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and solutioning.
