Requirements
- BS in Engineering, preferably electrical with a power focus.
- 2+ years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
- Advanced user of Microsoft products, specifically Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with substation design standards and practices including IEEE, NESC, and utility specifications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and mentor junior staff.
- Strong initiative and leadership qualities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Preferred: Experience leading substation projects modeled in 3D using Autodesk Inventor.
- Preferred: Familiarity with CDEGS for grounding studies and Agi32 for illumination.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the design and preparation of substation physical design drawings.
- Develop designs for One Line and Three Line diagrams, general arrangements, grounding plans, and conduit details.
- Perform engineering studies including AC load, illumination, grounding, and lightning shielding.
- Coordinate with protection & controls, civil/structural, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverables.
- Support client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning efforts.
- Participate in site visits and constructability reviews.
- Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes such as IEEE, NESC, and NEC.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers.
