Requirements

  • Managed managers, coached senior designers, and built design teams that improve craft and business outcomes.
  • Experience leading design across complex or developer-facing products.
  • Proven craft authority with the ability to identify and enforce quality standards.
  • Demonstrated strategic influence, moving beyond downstream execution to become a co-equal in product conversations.
  • Structured problem-solving skills to navigate and resolve ambiguity.
  • Deep understanding of the AI, automation, or adjacent tooling landscape.
  • Literacy in research, with experience building research into product development processes.
  • Experience using product analytics, research, and customer evidence for data-informed decision-making.
  • Expertise in organizational design and performance management.
  • Experience with open-source, community-led, or builder-driven products is nice to have.
  • Front-end or design engineering fluency is a plus.
  • Experience building rituals for remote-first or distributed teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set a clear, consistent quality bar that the team can orient around and build toward.
  • Build review processes and critique rituals that give the team a shared language for quality.
  • Evolve the design system and QA practices to support team growth.
  • Shape product strategy and lead design's expansion toward a broader, less technical audience.
  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 14 designers, including Design Leads, ICs, and Design Engineering/UX Research.
  • Shape team structure, career frameworks, and progression paths.
  • Own hiring and headcount planning for the design department.
  • Establish a pragmatic, continuous research practice to inform product decisions.
  • Champion practical AI adoption within the design organization.
