Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7–10+ years in communications, public relations, or related roles.
  • Experience in automotive, clean transportation, or nonprofit sectors strongly preferred.
  • Experience promoting policy initiatives at Federal, State, or Local level required.
  • Exemplary writing and storytelling ability with a demonstrated portfolio.
  • Strong media relations instincts with proven success securing coverage.
  • Ability to translate technical topics into clear, accessible messaging.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Proactive, problem-solving, hands-on mindset.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence without formal authority.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications plan aligning with CALSTART’s mission, programs, and policy initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging across all channels.
  • Proactively secure media coverage and maintain relationships with journalists.
  • Prepare press materials, op-eds, talking points, and policy briefs.
  • Own creation of high-quality content including blogs, newsletters, and case studies.
  • Plan and execute events, briefings, and webinars for stakeholders.
  • Develop and track KPIs for communications performance.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional partners and internal teams.
