Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, consulting, or nonprofit financial management.
  • Demonstrated expertise serving nonprofit organizations in an advisory, accounting, or financial leadership capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, compliance requirements, and financial reporting standards.
  • Required experience with endowments, investment structures, and revenue recognition related to donor contributions.
  • Deep understanding of nonprofit-specific topics, including UPMIFA, indirect cost methodologies, audit processes, Form 990 reporting, and long-term financial sustainability planning.
  • Proven ability to advise executive leadership teams and boards on complex financial matters and strategic initiatives.
  • Experience leading organizational change, process improvement projects, and technology-driven transformation efforts.
  • Strong project management, client relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Experience managing remote or geographically distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or similar financial management systems.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting advisory engagements for nonprofit organizations, providing CFO-level guidance on financial strategy, operations, and organizational performance.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership teams and boards by delivering actionable insights on financial statements, cash flow management, forecasting, and long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee multiple client engagements, ensuring timely delivery of accurate financial reporting, accounting services, and strategic recommendations.
  • Drive organizational transformation initiatives through process improvements, technology adoption, standardization efforts, and operational best practices.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by understanding organizational objectives and tailoring solutions to support mission-driven outcomes.
  • Analyze financial performance metrics and key performance indicators, providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency, liquidity, and financial stability.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists across accounting, payroll, revenue cycle, compliance, and other service areas to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes while advising clients on financial planning and strategic decision-making.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members, fostering professional growth, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and governance processes relevant to nonprofit organizations.
