Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in Payroll, Payroll tax, or high-volume multi-state and multi-provincial payroll.
- Strong knowledge of Workday.
- Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets.
- Deep understanding of Circular E (Employer's Tax Guide).
- Understanding of multi-state reciprocity rules.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax returns—including Form 940, Form 941, Form W-2, and Canada Forms.
- Perform regular plausibility audits and reconciliations of employee and employer payroll tax setups.
- Complete tax returns and request payments for Canada Workers' Compensation and other agency-related taxes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for tax authorities to handle notices, audits, and new tax identification number registrations.
- Address executive escalations and stakeholder inquiries.
- Partner with internal teams and tax preparer to test and implement tax updates within Workday.
- Prepare periodic trend reports regarding tax liabilities and financial impacts.
- Support corporate activities such as mergers and acquisitions.
