Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience with 10+ years in underwriting.
- Minimum 5+ years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience or related commercial insurance underwriting expertise.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles, pricing models, and risk evaluation methodologies.
- Experience with high-risk industries such as construction, manufacturing, real estate, or hospitality.
- Ability to analyze complex submissions and make sound, data-informed underwriting decisions.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to quickly learn underwriting and insurance systems.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite workers’ compensation insurance applications by analyzing risk exposures, financial data, and industry-specific characteristics.
- Review new business, renewals, and policy change requests while applying underwriting guidelines and risk appetite frameworks.
- Approve, decline, or refer submissions within assigned authority levels.
- Conduct detailed risk analysis for complex accounts across industries such as construction, hospitality, real estate, and manufacturing.
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Document underwriting rationale, pricing justification, and risk assessments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and producers.
- Collaborate with internal underwriting, operations, and product teams.
- Provide recommendations to insureds and partners to reduce exposure.
- Support process improvements and contribute to knowledge sharing and mentorship.
