Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active membership in the California State Bar and good standing status required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience handling employment law and wage and hour matters.
- Strong knowledge of employment regulations, compliance frameworks, litigation processes, and risk management practices.
- Proven experience advising internal business stakeholders in corporate or in-house legal environments.
- Excellent legal research, analytical thinking, and project management capabilities.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a strong sense of urgency in fast-moving business environments.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to internal stakeholders on a broad range of employment-related matters, including wage and hour compliance, employee classification, accommodations, investigations, and benefits issues.
- Draft, review, and advise on employment policies, HR procedures, internal guidelines, and related documentation to ensure legal compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Manage and support the defense of lawsuits, claims, and administrative charges while assessing legal risks and recommending appropriate resolutions or dispute strategies.
- Conduct legal risk analyses and provide business-focused recommendations that align legal obligations with organizational objectives.
- Monitor changes in employment law, wage and hour regulations, and emerging legal developments, proactively advising departments on potential impacts and compliance strategies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams including Human Resources, Compliance, Marketing, IT, and leadership to support company initiatives and mitigate legal exposure.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements, policy enhancements, and operational efficiencies within legal and compliance functions.
- Support alternative dispute resolution efforts and participate in negotiations when appropriate.
