Requirements
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience
- Significant experience supporting payroll servicing, workforce platforms, or fintech products
- Juris Doctor degree
- Active U.S. law license in good standing
- Deep knowledge of employment and wage-and-hour laws (FLSA and state equivalents)
- Strong understanding of payroll tax, withholding, and reporting
- Clear, practical, and actionable communication skills
- Strong judgment and comfort navigating ambiguity
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools or willingness to learn
Responsibilities
- Serve as senior member of Legal team and lead product lawyer for payroll and job applicant products
- Advise on wage and hour compliance (federal, state, local), payroll processing, and tax withholding
- Provide legal guidance on payments, ACH, prefunding, and settlement timing
- Develop best practices for working with payroll vendors and financial partners
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify regulatory risk and build compliant solutions
- Support state and federal regulatory examinations and audits
- Assist with litigation, regulatory enforcement, and vendor/client disputes
- Develop and deliver training on payroll-related laws and best practices
