- Strong knowledge of COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and related state and federal regulations
- Experience working with California benefit plans preferred
- Strong computer skills with emphasis on reporting
- Experience with MS Office
- High proficiency in Excel
- Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Critical thinking skills
- HR Certificate preferred
- Experience in a medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical environment preferred
Responsibilities
- Manages all company-wide health and welfare benefit plans, programs, and systems including 401(k) and Section 125 plans.
- Develops and/or participates in benefit surveys.
- Administers and communicates the company’s benefits program plan options, features and enrollment requirements; assists employees with benefit claim administration inquiries.
- Ensures company compliance with federal and state laws governing benefits practices.
- Leads in the development, design, implementation and communication of all employee benefit programs, including annual benefits renewal processes with broker and open enrollment program for employees.
- Responsible for research and competitive benchmarking of Rewards/Benefits trends to provide recommendations on strategy and Program changes, to support and drive attraction and retention of talent.
- Introduces efficient and effective ways to address benefit questions and concerns; expands Employee Education opportunities to improve utilization and understanding of Tandem’s various benefit programs, perks and offerings.
- Ensures all benefit plan documents, summary plan descriptions, information brochures, and related are accurate, current and communicated on time for all benefits programs.
- Oversight of plan audits, statutory filings, and discrimination testing with Plan Administrator. Ensures timely completion and submission of required reports, such as annual Form 5500.
- Provides benefit plan direction including liaison to the brokers/vendors, legislative, and regulatory compliance including billing and plan audits.
- Administers employee health and welfare plans including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Revises processes for existing benefits enrollment and status changes for continuous improvement.
- Updates and maintains employee files regarding benefits in compliance with HIPAA regulations; assists Payroll with benefit contributions in company payroll system.
- Oversees COBRA and Flex Plan programs and processes via third party administrator.
- Manages leave programs including CFRA/FMLA/STD/LTD in accordance with State and Federal laws.
- Plans and conducts wellness/education activities and events.
- Serves as HR representative on Safety Committee.
- Partners with Environmental Health & Safety team in the oversight of the workers compensation program.
- Oversees the unemployment and disability programs.
- Participates in new employee onboarding program with benefits enrollment information and off boarding activities regarding separations and end of coverage/COBRA information.
- Responsible for updating Employee Handbook policies relating to benefits, leaves of absence and other legislated time off authorizations.
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
